Who wants to be a ‘Home Inspector?”

Well, as much as I love where I live and work. The “State” continues to make me wonder, what’s the point? Being a licensed contractor that continues to keep up with the constant changing trends and laws, I was floored to find out that there is NO requirement for training or certification, (Other than a national Cert.) in the State of Michigan to become a residential home inspector. I was recently doing a small cabinetry project and actually had a city inspector drive up to my customer’s house and ask me what I was doing in the residence, why you might wonder? Reason is, as a licensed contractor, I have to have:

-A copy of the residential code book in my work vehicle

-Original copies of my Builders License

-Proof of insurance

-Pulled permits if asked

If I don’t, I’m fined (Income for the city of coarse) and a ‘Blemish” can be put on my license. I know he was only doing his job. So what I’m getting at here is, after all the new rules enforced on the guys trying to do right and help consumers, some how the regulators always miss the ball. P.S. Home inspections in now one of Precision Renovations services!
